I believe in democracy and do not want to impose my views on others like a dictator. Still, I hope that eventually most people will conclude that causing animals suffering and death simply for the pleasure of eating meat is wrong. When that day comes, I hope the practice of eating meat will be outlawed through a democratic process.
This view is not shared by all animal-rights advocates. Many say it is wrong to impose our morality on others, even through democratic means. However, I would point out that by outlawing murder, rape and torture, we are in fact “imposing our morality” on those who see nothing wrong with murder, rape and torture.
Nevertheless, my purpose in writing this webpage is not to “force” anyone to become vegetarian against their will, but only to offer people information that will help them make an informed choice. I also want to point out that every time we choose to eat meat, we “impose our morality” on the animals we send to slaughter.
